Nuno Felting is a Japanese felting technique that combines
shear fiber and wool to make lightweight garments and
other items by shrinking them together with moisture and
agitation and creating many possibilities for
transparency and exciting texture. The word Nuno is
Japanese for fabric.
We are combining silks and wool with no sewing, just
loads of sudsy fun, mixin’ it up with colors of wool
roving, yarns, silk tussah, silk chiffon, hand dyed
curly wools, rhinestones, glass beads, embroidery and
whatever else we can throw in! To top it all off, the
workshop is set to music and we will be working with our
feet! So get ready to Rock n’ Roll and join Barbara for
a special play date that includes, bubbles, noodles,
chiffon, suds, rolling games, throwing, and playing with
squishy things.
The finished scarves are works of art just on their own,
but embellishing them with beads, embroidery, blingz n’
thingz, creates more dimension and quite a profit making
item in high end stores. Scarves are only one thing that
can be made with this method, this class will enable you
to learn the technique and create clothing that is
lightweight and non bulky to sew.
Students will use the roving’s to create their own
designs and patterns by throwing the roving randomly
onto the silk, giving you the opportunity to have fun
with what you are working on . The process is fast
enough that we will finish in the classroom. (There will
be models of scarves and clothing in the room as well)
Kit fee: $65.00 paid at the beginning of the
class to the instructor
Kit includes: silk fabrics, wool roving’s, bubble wrap,
spray bottles, nylon voile, yarns, curly mohair, beads,
buttons, embroidery threads, rhinestones, Angelina
fibers, plastic wraps, noodles, and soap.
Bring to class: regular sewing notions,
needles, scissors, thread, old beach towel, rubber
gloves (and if you have something special you would like
to add for embellishments bring them with you.
