Pam Clarke has been quilting since the late 1960's and sewing for 46 years. She lives in Spokane WA and grew up in Sacramento CA. Pam has been machine quilting and teaching machine quilting, piecing and appliqué classes since 1988. She is the owner of Homes Stitches a professional machine quilting business that was started in 1988. Her work can be seen in several published magazines and books. She quilts for Debbie Mumm, K-P kids, Fiber Mosaics, Mary Lou and Company, Fabric Sales, Kaufman, Bernantix, Retta Weirheim and Martingale.

Are you in a stipple rut? Join Pam Clarke as she shares with you her 25 favorite background designs. Using the workbook draw along with Pam as she guides you in how to break down the shapes for all these great background fillers to be used as all over designs or behind appliqué.

You’ll be surprised how simple it is to do swirls, leaves, loops, stars, waves, ivy, herky jerky, echo, paisley, etc. Then sit back and watch as Pam demo’s using the Longarm to stitch theses shapes into a wall-quilt to be given as a door prize at the end of class.
Several samples will be available along with hints where and when to use these designs. This class is for all levels of quilters. Learn how to jazz up your quilting and show your friends and customers that you can go beyond stippling.

Fearless Beginnings to Free-Motion Quilting - WORKSHOP

Beginner-Lecture and Demo

Discover the secrets to smooth quilting and basic quilt designs; this class is designed to save time and gain confidence. If you are new to free-motion quilting this class is for you. Pam Clarke, a Longarm/machine quilter since 1988 will guide you in this step by step no fuss-method.

This lecture/demo/hands-on will cover how to mark a quilt top, several background stitches, and the seven basic quilt patterns to create unlimited quilt designs. You will be amazed how easy it is to do feathers, hearts, leaves, waves, etc. And with a little bit of practice, you will soon be finishing quilt tops faster than you thought possible. A workbook packed full of ideas and practice ideas will be provided in class along with several samples and demonstrations using the quilting machine.

Bobbie Bergquist is a quilt maker who strives to keep things simple quick and fun. She was the inspiration for Quilters Treasure whose goal is to give quilters an artist pallet. Bobbie wanted to make a stained glass quilt and found nothing available to meet this need. Her husband Joel created fabric which has inspired her & many other quilters to expand their creativity.

Quilt-As-You-Go  - WORKSHOP
CLASSROOM: The Hefner  (At the Courtyard by Marriott-located across the street from the Cox Convention Center)  
Are your quilt blocks different sizes? Do your quilt tops shift? Do you have trouble finding a flat surface large enough and at a comfortable Height to baste your quilt layers together? If you would like an easy way to make a large quilt that is flat, square and even, then this is the workshop for you. Discover how to prepare and assemble quilt blocks using this “Quilt as You Go” method, which will permit you to see all your seams as you sew. No guess work here! Then to finish it off, a perfect way to create large quilted projects easily! You can measure the bottom, middle & top of your quilt & they will all measure the same. There will also be a dotted ¼ inch line to cut, which will also square your quilt. Add binding and you have a perfect quilt.

Bring to class:
Basic sewing supplies, extra sewing machine needles, hand sewing needles, sharp fabric scissors, # 2 pencil or marking chalk, small cutting board, rotary cutter & ruler: pins any color thread for both hand & machine sewing.

Table Top Nuno Felted Pocketbook - WORKSHOP

There are no needles and no machines. We will sit and do tabletop Nuno felting and make small purses.

Nuno is a Japanese Technique of pushing your fibers through the silk to create beautiful fabric.

You can do random design or be deliberate with your art. You need no special skills or talent just the willingness to learn and have fun and you will create a beautiful one of kind masterpiece using silk chiffon, exotic fibers and we encourage you to bring in a fiber that you might have and would like to add to your piece. This is really a lot of fun! If you have never tried the Nuno felting this is the time to do it. The class is set to music; it’s fast and is an exciting technique.

Kit fee: $20 Paid to the teaching in the classroom
Kit includes: silk, roving, yarns, roller, nylon tulle, soap, banana fiber, sari silks, bubble wrap & glass beads.

Most people think of wool felts as more for appliqué and crafts but it is such a great fabric, that it is making 'its' way into the World of Fashion.

Sophisticated fashions, tailored and casual but also creating grunge fashions from the wool felts, the versatility is amazing. It's easy to cut, easy to press, does not need interlining and no lining for jackets.

It sews like a dream! You can finish the edges or leave them and it's a stylish fabric, rich in texture and color. It is easy to add embellishments, buttons, belts, appliqué, beads and more. Easy to care for, no dry cleaning is required. We will have embellishment ideas to share.

We will have wonderful samples which include the first two tailored jackets in Wool felts by Connie Crawford with Fashion Patterns /Butterick. Connie absolutely loves working with this fabric!

Following retirement from school teaching and administration, Charlotte became completely addicted to the world of quilting. She lectures and teaches workshops on fabric painting, dying, piecing and appliquéing techniques.

She is also an experienced, award winning quilter and educator, specializing in art quilts. Charlotte's quilts are meticulously crafted and quilted on her Bernina 200 home machine.

Appliquéd and Free Motion Embroidered Sunflower - WORKSHOP
CLASSROOM: The Hefner  (At the Courtyard by Marriott-located across the street from the Cox Convention Center)  
Since flowers are Charlotte's specialty, she will guide you in the making of an appliqué sunflower wall hanging using free motion appliqué techniques on the Bernina sewing machine.

Charlotte will provide the original pattern and kit. The kit will contain all that you will need; come and enjoy making this beautiful sunflower that can be finished with binding or placed in a frame.

Jerri is a pattern designer and teacher, known for her boutique quality jacket patterns made from Sweatshirts. She chooses to use sweatshirts so that her customers don’t have to worry about sizing. Just use a sweatshirt that fits and change it into a wonderful work of wearable art. Her pattern company is called “Moonlight Design Quilts and Wearables, Inc.”. Sara is a self-taught artist, has been a featured guest on PBS TV show America Quilts Creatively and love teaching her students techniques to inspire creativity. Winding Curves - WORKSHOP
CLASSROOM: The Hefner  (At the Courtyard by Marriott-located across the street from the Cox Convention Center)  
This is an art quilt made using Sara Moe’s unique foolproof curved piecing techniques. Even beginning quilters can sew perfect curved quilt blocks with Sara’s pinless EZ curved piecing method. You will be making the blocks for your Winding Curve quilt top and learning how to put them together to create a unique art quilt.

Quilt design, and composition will be taught as well as tips and tricks for sewing your curved pieced blocks. Sara will show you the many different layout options for you to create your own original designs.

Instructor will have templates for Class use and will have the templates available for purchase.

Recommended fabrics:*

Fabric Set 1: 4 - 8 Bright solid fat quarters - These fat quarters should read as primarily medium to light values. (very small prints or solid looking batiks work well) Each student should have between 4-8 different fabrics to choose from. You will only use 4 of these but will want to look at different color combinations to before you make your final fabric selection).

Fabric Set 2: 4 Fat Quarters - Prints with black background and bright colored print that will read primarily black. These fat quarters can all be the same or can be different but have the same black background with different small bright prints.

** Note if you want a quilt that is a different color scheme than the sample quilt, you can select any solid fabric or fabrics that reads as a light to medium value solid for the first set of fat quarters. The second fabric set should read as a dark value, so that there is a definite difference in the values from set 1 fabrics.

Thread: Neutral Colored (Beige or Grey) Cotton Sewing Thread.
Needles: Universal 80/12 needle for piecing
Rotary Cutter (18mm or 28mm work best) and Cutting Mat
Straight 24” cutting ruler
Water Soluble Marker or Chalk marker

Patricia represents the family owned and operated business, Quilter’s Rule, and attends over 20 quilting shows a year. Shortly after joining Quilter’s Rule, she learned to quilt.

While attending a WonderCut retreat (held by Alice Walter and Deb Hopkins, the designers of the WonderCut Ruler and the WonderCut Triangle Ruler), she completed her second quilt, a Lone Star quilt, usually on display in our booth at quilt shows, and discovered the joy of quilting.

Using Fabric Paints - SEMINAR

The author of the Basic Guide to Dyeing & Painting fabric (and a new book releasing with C&T this year) will take the mystery out of using paints on cloth.

Cindy explains the difference between dyes and paints and when to use which. The only secret to painting on fabric is how to apply it; she’ll show you many application methods and painted quilts.

This demonstration shows that coloring fabric is so easy you'll soon be addicted.
